Our 2s Parent/Child Workshop is a social preschool experience that fosters creativity and supports the bond between parent/caregiver and two-year-old child. Workshops are held twice a week in a classroom environment.
The classroom is structured with interactive stations around the room, each enabling children to explore dramatic play or tactile experiences at their own pace. The materials at these stations offer children opportunities for individual, dyadic and group exchanges that allow for greater self-understanding, growth, expression of feelings and negotiation with one another. Teachers observe each child's way of engaging with the materials and then, based on those observations, develop new ways to interact with the materials. The parent supports the child's exploration and connects through shared play.
Our tactile curriculum invites children to use their senses to investigate and master a range of substances and textures found in art, science and the natural world. Children have exposure to cause-and-effect relationships, problem solving, experimentation and pure creativity.
Children in the 2s program also utilize our Wonder Room, a signature piece of our program that consists of soft pads and interactive lighting elements that provide opportunities for physical and dramatic play. This forgiving space helps their gross motor development, allows them to express themselves through movement and imaginative play.
In addition to supporting these child-led explorations, teachers foster peer relationships and encourage collaboration, such as circle and story time, music making, movement exercises and organic gardening. Classes end with supervised outdoor playtime or experimentation with Glow Time. Glow Time is an element taken directly from the Blue Man Group show, which has translated extremely well for young children. Children are invited to transform the classroom environment through the use of black light, and teachers offer materials to learn about cause-and-effect relationships that encourage deep focus and collaborative play.
We believe the extension of the parent/child connection to an Early Childhood setting helps children gently transition into a new realm where they begin to form primary attachments with teachers and peers. This approach provides very young children with a secure and comfortable first school experience and helps them build a strong, connected social foundation for their educational journey.
